There Goes the Moon....Again!
What's going on in this Bonk episode? Well it seems that
King Drool's upstart of a Grandson,King Drool III, has decided to carry on the Drool
tradition of chopping off half the moon and using it as part of a massive fortress
to take over the Dinosaur Kingdom. Drool wants to turn our headbanger's homeland
into a Monster Kingdom. So Bonk is getting set to headbash him into oblivion. Let's
check out the game!
A Bonked-Out Experience
Hudson Soft did a great job on this game. They
took the cartoony graphics and nonstop action of Bonk's Adventure and made them even
better this time.
The graphics on Bonk's Revenge are really cool and fun to look at. Some of the enemies
get pretty ourageous expressions on their faces when you bash them. Bonk travels
across a prehistoric land filled with chaos and crazy enemies. There are old foes
such as the egg-headed chikkuns and alligator turtles in addtion to a large assortment
of new ones to deal with. Some new enemies include fire-breathing dinosaurs, phirahna
birds, and weird pterodactyl skeletons that attack our granite-headed hero with spikes!
This game has good play control and the moves are easy to do.
Bonk: Press II, and you bonk an enemy with your head
Head dive: Jump or run and press II and you can bash on the ground or on
top of an enemy.
Waterfall crawl:
Jump at a waterfall and press up and I to swim up it.
Wall bite: Jump at a wall and Bonk will latch on with his teeth. Keep
pressing I to climb up.
Triangle jump: Alternately press left and right while bonking between two
walls to make your way up.
Bonk spin: Jump and press II continuously to spin in the air and fly onto
enemies or over obstacles.

Items:
This game has a lot of items. There are the
good old smiley faces that get you into special item rounds, meat that makes you freeze
enemies or blast them with fire. Mad Bonk(1 meat) freezes enemies with smoke and
Firebreathing Bonk(2 meats or a big one) fries them with fire. Bash the ground with
Mad Bonk to freeze enemies and bash the ground with Fire-breathing Bonk to severely
damage all enemies on screen. One-ups,life-restoring fruit, hearts and bonus food
is everywhere to help you out also. The propellor flower lets you fly through the
air when you press up and I. To fly easier with this, put the I turboswitch up all
the way.
Ride the Monster Trains and Cruise
Through the Bonus Stages!
The smiley faces you collect in the rounds
and in the bonus stages give you a chance to ride the Monster Trains at the end of
each round. The more smileys you get,the better the train you get, and the better
the train you get, the better the items(meat,hearts,1-ups)on it are. The bonus stages
in Bonk's Revenge are challenging and fun to play. Having trouble on the bonus stages
or do you just like playing them? Well, why not try my bonus stage select code? Hold
II and press run while on the mode select screen to try all the bonus stages!
Seven Head-Bashing Stages
of Mayhem!
The stages in Bonk's Revenge are great fun to
play through and can be challenging to get through. Just about every stage, except
for stage 5, has a mini boss and a main boss. All the mini bosses, except for the
Drool Copter, are standard enemies that can be beaten easily. Here's a guide to help
you get through the game!
Stage 1:Stage 1 is a pretty standard stage and is good for practicing
your moves if you're a first time player. First there's a waterfall,then a field,a
cave, and the Volcano Castle where you fight the boss.
Mini boss: Egghead dinosaur rider
Boss: Dodogie
To beat Dodogie, wait for the fireballs to stop falling(be sure to dodge them)and
when he rises, jump on his shell behind his head, and bonk his head. To really get
the job done quickly, put your turboswitch for II all the way up and then bonk his
head.
Stage 2:Jungle stage. This stage has alot
of smileys to get, besides the ones that you get in the bonus stages. Be careful on
the log ride on the first level. If you fall off the log, the fish will be waiting
to chomp your head!
Mini boss:
Two spike-carrying pterodactyl skeletons
Boss: Radar
Freeze Triceratops
This guy will run bak and forth, trying to
turn you into prehistoric roadkill. Then he will try to freeze you with radar beams
that come off a piece of metal on his big horn! The freeze will get you the same
way that Mad Bonk freezes his enemies. If you get frozen,he can hit you easily. To
beat him, dodge the beams and jump and bonk on top of his head as he runs by.
Stage 3:Arctic stage. A very cool stage! (no pun intended) Watch out for
the firebreathing dinosaurs and the eggheads that pop out of the snowmen and chuck
snowballs at you. At the end you'll go through a haunted ice fortress and cave in
a spinning Ice Queen with your noggin.
Mini boss: Blue triceratops
Boss: Ice Queen.
Run back and forth to avoid getting hit when
she spins.
She'll toss up snowballs so bonk them so they won't land on you. When she stops spinning, jump
and bonk her.
Stage 4:Beach/Warship stage: This is an
awesome stage. First take a walk down the beach(make sure it's not a permanent one)and
ruin Buchirina and the eggheads' vacation. Watch out for the bad-surfin egghead dudes!
Afterthat,you'll
have top take over a big warship that lasts two levels. Watch out for exploding missiles
launched out of guns and radar towers that toss axes at you. At the end of this scurvy
tale, you'll meat up with one mean old prehistoricseadog by the name of Captain Cook.
Ah, the ocean is such a cruel mistress...
Mini boss:
Three pirahna birds.
Boss:
Captain Cook.
Cook will come up out of three pipes and try
to hit you with his hook. Dodge the hook and jump and hit him on the head. Ater doing
that for awhile,Cook will jump in a shark-faced battleship and try to fry you with
fireballs and blow you away with missiles. Stand between the pipes and wait for the
missiles to go by. Then, jump up dodge the fireball and hit Cook on his head.
Stage 5:Volcano
Stage. This is a very challenging stage even though there is no mini boss
or main boss to fight. There are tons of enemies everywhere,so be ready to fight
it out at every turn. In the first level,a bunch of fireballs rain down from out
of the sky and they're very difficult to avoid. If you want to get by easy, with little
or no damage, then get the big meat at the beginning of the stage. Run quickly to
the end of the stage and Firebreathing Bonk's invincibility will see you through.
After the orange waterfall level, you'll see a neat cinema scene of King Drool's Moon
Pyramid moving over to his castle. And then you go to Stage 6.
Stage 6:Egghead
City/King Drool's castle. At the beginning of this stage, you take a trip through
theLaundry
Pool and Hatchet's Hometown. This is where the egghead chikkuns live. Look out for
lots of fruit power-ups,meat,and 1-ups. Also watch out for the big egghead ladies
that were also in the stage 4 warship. The last level is the Spook Tower.
Mini boss:
Drool Copter. Bash him 3 times. Watch out for his bubbles. You'll run into the
copter more in stage 7.
Boss: Golden Knight.
Bonk his gloves that try to home in on you.
Then when he dives at you, jump out of the way,and then hit him on the head.
Stage 7:The Moon Pyramid. Well,here
we are,all ready for the big Bonk showdown with King Drool the Third. First, you go
through four tunnels. At the end of each one is a boss from earlier in the game(you
fight all the bosses). Then, you fight the Golden Knight again, and then Bonk fights....
King Drool the Third!!!Drool appears on top of the pyramid. He shoots fire balls, missiles, and
icesickles. If he moves to the right he runs at you from the right, and if he gos
to the left, then he runs at you from the left. Use the two platforms to jump and
hit him on top on top of the crown. You have to time it right, otherwise you'll take
hits from the crown.

Bonk's Revenge is a long,challenging game with
great graphics and gameplay.
It'll last you a long time. You won't be disappointed. |
